Go therefore and make disciples of all nations , baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything that I have commanded you
No one can make anyone follow Jesus. What the disciples receive is the word from the living Christ that continues to beckon them to follow. What the disciples have is the word from the living Christ that beckons others to follow. His promise is that “I am with you always, to the close of the age.” True authority is what gives people the confidence to follow. And this is what Jesus says about himself.
