In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.  Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Today is a day to remember your baptism, and to do so along with all your brothers and sisters gathered around font, word, and table. This is a day to give thanks that in Jesus God created a new beginning for all persons, all humanity, and all creation, a fresh start poured out of the open windows of God’s loving heart. Today is a day to contemplate all the ways we face dead ends in life, even in death itself. Today we remember that God’s Spirit creates us anew out of God’s free flowing grace in the new life that is Jesus Christ.
